and it's off!

Just after the cutting off--

and now, hanging up and out of the way.  The studio is a MAJOR wreck and needs excessive vacuuming--yes, I do mean excessive.

I'm very happy to have this off the loom by my end-of-October self-imposed deadline.  I looked back in a studio journal today and see that I was beginning the weaving on June 3.  Almost five months... but quite a bit of that time was spent not weaving--at least on this tapestry.

I'll be using half-Damascus for the edges, then sewing a velcro strip at the top to be attached to velcro covered wood bar.  Finishing will start tomorrow.

Now... to concentrate on the workshop experience coming up next week!  Four days with Silvia Heyden--how I'm looking forward to it.  The inspiration I gained from spending a short time with her in May, along with other TWS members, is reflected in this tapestry.  Wonder what next week will bring?!

  6. I'm so excited for you about this piece - it is beautiful, but I also know how you were exploring so many new things. It will be interesting being able to reflect on this experience next week while you are with Sylvia and how it will influence your next piece! I look forward to seeing it in person! Congrats!

  8. It's beautiful! When I start a new weaving project I keep the area clean and neat and pick up things, etc. But by the time I finish I have given all that up so everything is a wreck!

  9. Congrats on cutting off this beautiful piece. It is majorly gorgeous. Enjoy your time with Silvia. I knew her briefly when I lived in Durham in the late Sixties, and have admired her work so much.

  11. Wow, Tommye, absolutely wonderful! Silvia will be thrilled to see it... you have pretty much done with this what she has challenged us to do in the distance mentoring program-- taking what she teaches & make it your own, not a copy of her style.

Have a wonderous time when you head to Silvia's studio, I know it will be as mind blowing for you as it was for me & I can't wait to read your impressions when you post about it. Please give her a big hug for me!

  14. Thank you to everyone for such nice comments. Silvia saw the piece today and I feel good about her thoughts about it that she gave me. I've got a long way to go! But I'm enjoying the ride.
